KFC Secret Recipe Fries review

KFC Secret Recipe Fries

As we reported on just a couple days ago, KFC recently ditched their potato wedges in favor of this brand new French fry product on their side dishes menu. Intrigued, we had to sample them ASAP! First up the packaging makes no bones about the change over, the Secret Recipe name is branded front and center:

As you can see from the pictures the fries have an extra coating than a traditional fast food French fry. Presumably that’s where the secret herbs and spices live, but in truth I didn’t detect any materially powerful flavors. If anything I found the fries heavier and stodgier. I know some like this style of extra crisp, extra heavy fry, it’s not my favorite.

Indeed, the whole affair was a little of a chore to work through, the exterior coating makes proceedings that bit more drier than I like. Enter stage right then, some KFC gravy and a little ketchup. Make sure no ones watching and this “KFC poutine” makes things much more enjoyable.

So are the new KFC Secret Recipe Fries any good? Sadly they’re a pass for me. They’re too heavy, dry and stodgy. If I had the choice I’d spend the extra calories and dollars on an extra piece of fried chicken.
